#WeAreSport aims to inspire women and girls with an intellectual into sport

The International Federation of Intellectual Impairment Sport (INAS) will hold its International Day of Sport for Athletes with an Intellectual Impairment on 20 September 2018.

Through it we want to raise the profile of the world’s best athletes, INAS and its members. We hope that we can use the occasion to get more potential athletes interested at a grass roots level.

INAS hopes that our day will become an exciting annual focal point in the calendar for fans, supporters, INAS member organisations and partner global activity. We want to use the scale of multiple events and activities to raise awareness, and harness corporate and media support.

Theme – 2018

This year’s edition will have a theme of #WeAreSport. This is an INAS campaign which aims to inspire women and girls with intellectual impairments to try sport for themselves. Several #SportChampions – athletes and administrators – have taken part in online seminars to improve their use of social media. INAS hopes they can use these skills to talk more about their lives as athletes and encourage the next generation.

Check out the #WeAreSport page to download materials on how to get started on social media.

How can you get involved?

Here are some ideas for INAS members, athletes, families and members of the public:

  • Host national Championships/open events
  • Organise ‘have a go’ events to increase exposure
  • Invite potential sponsors and media partners to meet athletes and cover competitions
  • Share your favourite memories, pictures and videos of athletes on social media
Our activities

INAS will be going digital this year to celebrate the athletes involved in #WeAreSport. Keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for content you can share throughout the day and during the following week.

INAS will also be sharing updates from member organisations and athletes. As a charity it aims to use the day to raise funds to support its work. If you would like to make a donation, please visit our support us page.
